Well, fan girls and guys it isn’t getting any easier in Benson’s world. Yes, she escaped the dark excesses of hell the psychopath Lewis gave her a tour of, and found a silver lining in baby Noah, who she became foster mom too.Yet, where there are predators there detective Liv will be. And they won’t just be gunning for her anymore, but her newfound family. With that said we list five ways “Law & Order: SVU’s” badge crusader is adapting to the many changes she’ll face this fall season.
1. Momma Mode- Liv will get a major test in being a mama bear in the season opener. She will have to protect baby Noah from the cartel that killed his mom, and is trying to take out Noah and Liv. Benson’s strategy for handling these threats—sacrificing her own safety to get ‘em in the clink—has changed, and she has more to lose now. So, I predict she’ll be calling in for backup a lot more now.
2. New Boss- Liv may be the sergeant of her unit but she still answers to someone. And that someone is Sandy Cohen Deputy Chief William Dodd (Peter Gallagher) the overseer of all special victims units in NYC. He’s described as a charismatic, tough-as-nails leader that demands hard work from subordinates. No one works harder than Liv, but as a new mom priorities change. Will Dodd be sympathetic to her new role?

3. New Instincts- Work isn’t the be-all and end-all it once was in Liv’s life. Unlike in past seasons where work trumped everything to chase to that carrot of justice, season 16 will feature a change of instincts for Liv. She will learn to be a multi-tasking working mom with the much background-checked babysitter’s number on speed dial.
4. No Amaro- Liv will have to be without her ace partner and sometimes roommate. Amaro is undercover to scope out the cartel targeting Liv and baby Noah. It’s good to know Amaro still has her back even outside the squad room, but how will she cope without her workplace confidant? Better question, can she surrender to his intel on the cartel and trust he can protect them both, or like always, handle things on her own?

5. New Partner-With Amaro away, a new detective swoops in to take his place. Detective Sonny Carisi is the new mustachioed crime fighter on “Law & Order: SVU.” He’s bounced around three special victim units around NYC and doesn’t fit into Benson’s right away. If you recall a few seasons ago, Benson was rolling her eyes at the newbies blunders, but with more power comes more responsibility (I guess) so Liv will step up in her role as Sergeant to show him the ropes.
"Law & Order: SVU" will premiere season 16 on Wednesday, September 24th 9/8c on NBC.
