Polly Bergen Dies At Age 84

Hollywood has just another iconic actress and singer.

Best know for her role in the original 'Cape Fear,' Polly Bergen passed away in her Connecticut home at the age of 84, surrounded by family and close friends.

Her publicist confirmed her passing. "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of legendary actress and long-time friend and client, Polly Bergen. She died peacefully at her home in Southbury, surrounded by her family, long-time personal manager, Jan McCormack and close friends."

Bergen was was not only an actress but an accomplished singer business women as well as an Emmy winner. She began her career singing when she was discovered by a Paramount Studio producer in the late 1940s which gave her acting career a boost.

In the 1950s recorded multiple albums and jumped on the TV platform to promote her great talents. Her first dramatic TV debut was in the 1955 "Schlitz Playhouse of Stars" (CBS, 1951-59). She won her Emmy portraying Helen Morgan on the “Playhouse 90” in 1958.

Bergen is best know for her role in the 1962 thriller 'Cape Fear,' playing the wife of Gregory Peck.

The actress in most recent times played TV mom to Felicity Huffman on ABC's 'Desperate Housewives.'

Bergen is survived by two daughters, Kathy Lander and Pamela Fields; a son, Peter Fields; and three grandchildren.
